Rafael Van der Vaart has a name in mind for potential Tottenham manager who the players would ‘run extra’ for

Rafael Van der Vaart has made a shocking claim about who Tottenham should appoint as their next permanent head coach.

Thomas Frank was dismissed just hours after Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle United last week. Two days later, the Lilywhites appointed Igor Tudor as the interim head coach until the end of the season to save the ship from sinking.

Igor Tudor has been getting to work on the training ground this week with his backroom staff as he aims to pull off a massive result by beating North London rivals Arsenal at home on Sunday. The Tottenham fans will be right up for the game, buoyed by Arsenal dropping points to basement club Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday evening.

The big Croat has 12 games to work his magic and keep Spurs in the English top flight. Until and unless he does something extraordinary, it is unlikely he will get the permanent job. The North Londoners opted to hire Tudor until the end of the season in a bid to give them time to fully assess their options for the permanent role.

Rafael Van der Vaart urges Tottenham to appoint Scott Parker as head coach

Tottenham will scour the market to find their new head coach to start a new project. Mauricio Pochettino has been sensationally linked with a return to the club, but it could only happen after his World Cup assignment with the USMNT. However, ex-Spurs star Rafael Van de Vaart believes that Scott Parker is the man the North Londoners should go for.

Scott Parker is currently in charge of Burnley. Having guided Burnley to top-flight promotion in 2025, they are not fighting against relegation. The Clarets are 19th in the table after 26 games, 11 points behind Spurs.

“As a player, I was always a fan of Scott Parker. As a coach, I believe in him, and I think that he would be a perfect fit for Spurs,” Van der Vaart told Sky Bet (h/t the Daily Mail).

“A lot of people will laugh at me saying this, but I know Scott, and I know that the players would love him, run extra for him and train like hell. Scott Parker would be a perfect fit, but it is a risk. Any manager you bring in now will be a risk.”

No chance for Scott Parker!

Scott Parker has built a decent managerial CV by helping teams from the Championship to get promoted. He has overseen successful promotional campaigns at Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley.

However, the 45-year-old left Fulham by mutual consent after suffering relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2020/21 season and was dismissed by Bournemouth for failing to help establish themselves in the Premier League a year later. Parker’s Burnley side are poised to go down, and he is facing increasing scrutiny over his position.

Without any shadow of doubt, Tottenham must not pay heed to Van der Vaart’s opinion on Parker.
